About Us

At Pirate Friday Club, we believe that everyone has a story to tell. Our Creative Writing Club is a safe space for individuals to share their ideas and experiences with like-minded people. Our community is built on non-judgmental and supportive attitudes, creating a welcoming environment for all. On Friday 22nd March we encourage businesses and schools to incorporate Pirate themed learning! Write a story, craft a pirate hat or film your own sea adventure! Remember to purchase your free virtual ticket in the events section or there be a mutiny!

As pirates, we understand that the importance of respecting the law of the seas. We have a zero-tolerance policy for anything that would compromise the safety or well-being of any individual or community whilst traveling on The Flying Ducthman. We respect our fellow pirates and take seriously the commitment to create an environment where you can express your love for pirate culture freely. We want to reiterate that we are in no way associated with the Somalian pirates and we instead portray the message that 'real pirates don't use guns, you scallywag'.

We were founded in 1986 by acting legend Steve Buscemi. In his late teenage years, Steve often wrote short stories about pirates and often longed for a life on the seas. Through this obsession, Steve started the Pirate Friday club. This club met every 6 weeks to bring forward modern day pirating. This would be anti-violence and had a set amount of kind-hearted rules to adhere to. This club would also promote creative writing and craft-based workshops in schools around the globe (reference - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Buscemi).
